Exclusive Research: Real-Time Payments Adoption

We have partnered with FI Navigator to conduct a study on real-time payments adoption. This study is based on bank and credit union data from FI Navigator (July 2024 data) tracking FedNow and RTP implementations.

Of institutions with real-time payments capabilities, we have observed:

•  Federal Reserve Bank’s FedNow does very well with banks less than $10 billion (FedNow has 81.7% of Banks less than $10B)
• The Clearing House's RTP platform dominates banks with over $10 billion (81.8% adoption)
• Credit unions under $500 million (the vast majority of CUs) only have 3% adoption of real-time payments
